Each year we select a quantity of fruit from both our Tolpuddle and GlenAyr vineyards in order to make wine under the GlenAyr label. From this we produce Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines of medal winning quality.

GlenAyr also makes small quantities of Riesling, and a rare for Tasmania, Shiraz Caberenet Merlot blend. A vintage Pinot Noir Chardonnay sparkling wine has just been released. Our wines all display an elegant fruit driven style that can only be found in wines produced from the best in cool climate locations

2004 Pinot Noir – Chardonnay Tolpuddle Cuvee
This wine has a lovely pale coppery pink colour and a persistent bead.
The aromatics displayed are caramel, apple, strawberry and sweet brioche, and completed with subtle nutty yeast characters.
The palate is clean and crisp, with hints of honey, strawberry and yeast. The length is medium with acid, sugar and fruit all in balance.
This sparkling wine would be lovely served with oysters or on its’ own.

2006 Riesling
The Riesling has a pale straw colour.
Floral, lime and citrus characters produce a fresh bouquet which follows through onto the palate with a zesty lively finish.
This delightfully aromatic wine would be well suited to accompany a cheese platter or an antipasto. Drinking well now but will further reward with cellaring
Awarded a silver medal at the 2006 Royal Hobart International Wine Show

2004 Chardonnay
This wine displays a youthful colour of pale straw. The aromatics highlight this youthfulness with fruity characters of pear and peach combining with excellent cedar and vanillin notes on the nose. The palate is soft and full bodied with excellent length. Citrus characters meld beautifully with the French oak to enhance the length to a toasty finish. The fruit driven characters will enable this wine to age and drink well for the next five years. This wine would compliment seafood perfectly. It was awarded a silver medal at the 2006 Tasmanian Wine Show and a bronze medal in the 2005 Royal Hobart International Wine Show.

2004 Pinot Noir
The Pinot Noir exhibits a dominant cherry character on the nose and shows cherry and strawberry characters on the palate. It has spent twelve months in French oak barrels contributing a subtle elegance to this vintage. This wine is best enjoyed with game meats and will benefit from short term cellaring. This vintage was awarded bronze medals at both the 2005 Royal Hobart International Wine Show and the Tasmanian Wine show in 2006.

2004 Shiraz Cabernet Merlot
This vintage has a vibrant red cherry colour. The nose has cherry and blackcurrant with spicy pepper tones characteristic of a cool climate Shiraz. The palate is light to medium bodied and exhibits cherry, plum and chocolate with a firm tannin structure that enhances the wines length. This wine will reward with medium to long term cellaring and will make a perfect accompaniment to pasta and light meat dishes.
